Hope your week has been great! Got the next couple of pages for you and I’ve got some recommendations after that. I figured I’d share some cool kickstarters that are going on right now, some podcasts I listen to, and some books and comics I’m enjoying!
CHAPTER 1: Page 7-8
This Weeks Recommendations!
This week I want to amplify the work of others to get their work out there!
Kickstarter
Death Transit Tanager by Karl Kershl
Tanager Ray can speak to the dead. One of a handful of young women who have this strange ability, she works as a Death Transit - a ferryman for lost souls stuck between here and the afterlife.
Inspired by Metroid and Hellboy and a LOT of manga and anime, each issue of DEATH TRANSIT TANAGER is a murder mystery in space, filled with creeping dread and kinetic sci-fi action!
I had a chance to grab the first issue on Karl’s last kickstarter and it came out absolutely gorgeous. The story is great and his art is always top-tier. If you’re looking for a new world to dive into, I recommend this one! Pro Tip: He has a bundle where you can get both issues!
Podcast
Chaotic Creatives with Lauren Hom and Rachael Renae
This is a podcast about embracing the chaos that comes with livening a creative life! They tackle topics such as our relationship with creativity, whether or not you should monetize your passions, and how to make a physical space for your creativity. They have four episodes out right now, and they have such a refreshing perspective on how to live a creative life. Whether or not you consider yourself an artist, I think this is a great podcast to jump into!
Book
Babel by R.F. Kuang
A couple weeks ago I finished reading Babel, and it absolutely blew me away. Let’s just say I had a good cry at the end of it. It’s rare that books move me emotionally to that degree and on top of that inspire me to want to write. This book did that. historical fantasy epic that grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance, and the use of language and translation as the dominating tool of the British Empire.
“This is how colonialism works. It convinces us that the fallout from resistance is entirely our fault, that the immoral choice is resistance itself rather than the circumstances that demanded it.” - Babel by R.F. Kuang
Comic
Rare Flavours by Ram V and Filipe Andrade
Ram V and Filipe Andrade have become my favorite writer-artist duo in the last few years. Their first venture together was The Many Deaths of Laila Starr and now they are working on Rare Flavours.
Rare Flavours follows Rubin Baksh, a demonic Rakshasa with a down-to-earth dream of becoming the next Anthony Bourdain. To make his dream come true, Rubin enlists Mo, a down-on-his-luck filmmaker, to document the world-renowned cuisine of India and the people behind the glorious, flavourful food.
But little does Mo know that there’s more to Rubin than meets the eye, and the mortals play a darker role in the show than they were prepared for…
Five out of six issues have been released and the finale comes out this coming Wednesday, June 3rd. If you can, run on over to your local comic shop and grab all the issues! You won’t be disappointed!
That’s all for this week! Thanks so much for all your support! I’ll see you next week!
