My First School Visit!
I got invited to talk to some 4th graders about comics, and it was so much fun!
This week was a lot of fun! Last Friday I was invited to talk to a a group of fourth graders about graphic novels and comics. I wanted to share about my time there and the next couple pages of my comic!

On Friday I did my first ever school visit! Rapaport, a local private school had just completed their lesson plan on graphic novels. How cool is that! Learning about graphic novels in school. And these kids were super excited. They had all worked on their own stories which they were eager to share with me. It was so exciting to see a group of kids who loved graphic novels, who love to create, who could list off their favorite comic writers and artists.
The class had just finished recess and needed a way to use up some of their lingering energy. I decided the best way to start would be with a game called exquisite corpse. We had paper already ready for each of them. I split them up into groups of three and had one person draw a head, one person draw a torso, and one person draw legs. And then they had to mash their creations together. They had a lot of fun with that and I had a couple groups come up and share their work.
Then I spent the next thirty minutes or so just telling them about my life. They wanted to know how I do what I do. They had so many questions. How do you make stickers? What’s your favorite part of drawing? When did you start making comics? The enthusiasm was infectious. The more fun they had the more fun I had.
I brought prints and stickers to give all the kids as gifts and sold some of my comics as well. They all got in line to show me their art. They wanted me to sign my comic and prints for them. It was a wild experience! I really enjoyed it and definitely see myself doing more of them in the future! I love the idea of sharing about my culture and comics with kids, hopefully showing them that creativity can be a part of their lives!
That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading!
